Bashan Fernandez serves as the Chief Program Officer at RTS, where he oversees a diverse portfolio of responsibilities, ranging from strategic planning to the implementation of impactful youth development initiatives. Bashan's journey to this pivotal role is characterized by resilience, adaptability, and an unwavering commitment to empowering the next generation.
Beginning his career in the entertainment industry, Bashan thrived as a professional background dancer and creative director, collaborating with hip-hop and R&B artists. His transition into education and youth mentorship was marked by his tenure at Dena’s School of the Arts in Queens, where he discovered the transformative power of mentorship in nurturing young talents.
Since joining RTS in 2008 as a performing arts instructor, Bashan has risen through the ranks, demonstrating exceptional leadership and innovation. His roles have included Summer Camp Program Director and After School Site Director, where he played a pivotal role in expanding RTS programs across various schools in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx.
Under Bashan's guidance, RTS has experienced remarkable growth, tripling program size, participant numbers, and budget. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Bashan's leadership ensured the continuity of RTS programs while prioritizing the safety and well-being of participants.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Bashan's passion for dance remains a cornerstone of his life, serving as a medium of personal expression and storytelling. He dedicates his free time to choreography, community arts projects, and mentoring aspiring dancers.
