The hallways of New Design Middle School were alive with energy and school spirit last week on March 7th, as Roads to Success hosted a rousing pep rally to kick off the school's Career and College Awareness Week. Over 100, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students gathered to get pumped up about their bright futures ahead.
The rally, facilitated by our partners, “Project Gametime”, included motivating speeches, cheers, music, dancing and games - all to boost morale and ignite students' excitement for the upcoming college tours and career exploration activities.
"We wanted to create a fun, spirited atmosphere to really drive home the message that college is an achievable goal for every single one of these students," said Tamara Willoughby, RTS' College Access & Pathways Program Coordinator who spearheaded the pep rally.
At Roads to Success, we understand the importance of planting the seeds of higher education ambition from an early age. That's why we offer transformative college and career awareness programs that expose middle school youth to the vast opportunities before them.
On March 15th, RTS will be taking 80 students from New Design Middle School and PS/MS 57 on a tour of Fordham University in the Bronx. This eye-opening experience, made possible by a grant from the West Harlem Development Corporation, will allow students to explore a college campus firsthand and envision themselves as future college students.
The pep rally and college tour are just two examples of how Roads to Success is empowering younger students in our College Access & Pathways program offerings. From workshops on financial aid to career exploration days, we are committed to ensuring finances, background, or circumstance are not barriers to their ambitions.
A huge thank you goes out to the enthusiastic New Design Middle School students, faculty, and staff who came together to make the pep rally a success. The Roads to Success team worked hand-in-hand with school administrators and teachers to create an unforgettable experience.
When a community shows its scholars just how much they're capable of achieving, it builds their confidence and drive to keep pushing forward. After an empowering week celebrating bright futures, we know these students are ready to rally toward their biggest dreams yet.
